Trapped, Though The Prison Cell is Wide Open

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

I find it interesting that this prompt is so deeply aligned with my current reflective process.

Because I can be hard on myself I tend to spend a lot of time dwelling on the past. I replay events in my head and as a result, moving forward is restricted because fear, uncertainty, and a bit of perfectionism.

To curb this, I had to begin by:

1. becoming self-aware and identifying my self-sabotaging tendencies. After all, you can’t fix what you have not diagnosed.

2. reframing my mindset by verbalizing that I’m releasing the past and opening my heart and mind to move forward.

3. actively doing things and filling my mind with thoughts that will propel me towards my goals.

My guiding scripture is Philippians 3:13-14 “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.“

It’s a work in progress…well, more like, I’m a work in progress. But, I’m making progress.
