When Stars Leave Their Orbit

When Stars Leave Their Orbit

A star’s impact is most notable when it is surrounded by darkness. It is in that contrast that its brilliance is revealed; steady, purposeful, and necessary. But once removed from the conditions that sustain it, it doesn’t simply dim…it destabilizes. And eventually, it explodes.

I remember the first time I heard this, it made me think: what happens when we are removed from our natural alignment?

If we are not operating in purpose, we run the risk of not only hurting ourselves but also potentially harming those around us as well.

The Cost of Operating Outside of Purpose

Just think about it for a second—

If you are not fully functioning in purpose, the thing which you were created to do in the earth, you don’t just become stagnant. Over time, you can begin to self-destruct.

And when you do, others can become collateral damage.

Purpose is not just about what you do; it shapes how you think, how you respond, and how you show up. Without it, it becomes easy to move from emotion instead of wisdom, to react instead of respond, and to seek validation instead of growth.

That internal misalignment does not stay hidden. It eventually shows up.

It shows up in your decisions.
It shows up in your relationships.
It shows up in your patterns.

And often, the people closest to you feel it first.

When Influence Outpaces Character

I recently came across a video of a very well-known influencer who is known for her uncut, unfiltered approach to speaking her truth. However, she was “canceled” because of statements made on her platform, along with decisions that raised concerns about her character.

In the video, she admitted to “bleeding on people” and lacking wisdom. She acknowledged that she acted based on where she was at the time. As a result, she lost partnerships, relationships, and her finances declined, impacting not only her, but also those connected to her, including employees.

Now, in her humanity, she was humble enough to acknowledge her error, apologize, and make a commitment to becoming better. And that matters.

However, because of the magnitude of her influence, it is likely that some of the behaviors and ideologies she has now acknowledged as unhealthy may have already been transferred to others, possibly more vulnerable individuals who held her in high esteem.

Though it is undeniable that she was created to impact people, without clarity of purpose coupled with the process of becoming a person of character who can steward that influence well, she began to self-destruct, and others felt the effects.

What It Means to “Bleed on People”

That phrase, “bleeding on people,” is powerful, but it’s also practical.

It looks like:

  • Speaking from a place of hurt and calling it honesty
  • Making decisions from unresolved emotions and calling it authenticity
  • Projecting internal confusion onto others without realizing it

It’s not always intentional, but it is impactful.

This is how misalignment spreads.

The Ripple Effect of Misalignment

In our humanity, we sometimes veer off course and, like the influencer, spiral into moments where we begin to “explode,” negatively impacting those in proximity to us.

And here is the truth:

Who you are becoming does not just affect you.

It affects how you lead.
It affects how you love.
It affects how you respond to people who trust you.

Like the influencer, we too run the risk of making similar mistakes if we are not grounded in purpose and developed in character.

Because influence, at any level, without alignment can become harmful.

Reflection Questions

Take a moment and really sit with this:

  • Am I currently operating in alignment with my purpose, or just moving without direction?
  • What areas of my life feel inconsistent or out of order?
  • Have there been moments where I “bled” on others from a place of hurt or lack of wisdom?
  • Am I developing my character at the same level that I desire growth or influence?
  • Who could be affected by my current patterns, whether positively or negatively?

A Call to Realign

The goal is not perfection; it is alignment.

There will be moments where we get it wrong. Moments where we act from where we are instead of where we are called to be. But we cannot afford to remain there.

We have a responsibility, not just to ourselves, but to those connected to us, to do the work of becoming.

So here is the charge:

Take one intentional step toward alignment today.

Whether that is:

  • Seeking clarity in your purpose
  • Taking accountability for your actions
  • Committing to personal growth and healing
  • Or simply pausing long enough to reflect before reacting

Do something that moves you back into alignment.

You were not created to self-destruct.

You were created to function with intention, to grow in character, and to impact others in a way that builds, not breaks.

Stay in orbit.
